Discipleship and Training
for
the Shingon Priesthood

RECEIVING THE TEN PRECEPTS (J: Jukai)

The next step is to receive the Precepts. This is only offered once a year, and the Disciple must travel to Koyasan, Japan. The Jukai includes the full precepts and is conducted over three days. Since this is only offered once a year a person may actually start the Shido Kegyo (Ritual Training) before they receive the precepts. This is a wonderful experience, that people will treasure for life. Many personal bonds are established as you go through the rigors of this Ceremony. It requires many Prostrations to the various Buddhas, especially the Three Thousand Buddhas of the Past, Present and Future.

This process requires registration, permission of the Master and the fees are about 50,000 yen ($430 depending on the yen rate).
